Equipment in the lowest charge band – less than 50 tonnes CO2 equivalent or, for the gases measured in kilograms, less than 10 kg – must be checked for leaks at least every twelve months. Where a leakage detection system is installed, a check at least every 24 months is sufficient. The duty covers stationary refrigeration equipment, air-conditioning equipment, heat pumps, fire protection equipment, Organic Rankine cycles and electrical switchgear, and refrigeration units in refrigerated trucks and trailers; for the remaining mobile equipment it applies from 13 March 2027. The check is carried out by a certified natural person; for mobile air-conditioning equipment and heat pumps a training attestation suffices. Hermetically sealed equipment labelled as such is exempt below 10 tonnes CO2 equivalent or 2 kg, and below 3 kg where installed in residential buildings. Electrical switchgear is exempt where it has a tested leakage rate below 0.1 % per year, a pressure or density monitoring device with automatic alarm, or contains less than 6 kg. For fire protection equipment the duty is met where an inspection regime under ISO 14520 or EN 15004 is in place and checks are made as often as required.

Einrichtungen der untersten Füllmengenstufe – weniger als 50 Tonnen CO₂-Äquivalent beziehungsweise, bei den nach Kilogramm bemessenen Gasen, weniger als 10 kg – sind mindestens alle zwölf Monate auf Dichtheit zu kontrollieren. Ist ein Leckage-Erkennungssystem installiert, genügt eine Kontrolle mindestens alle 24 Monate. Die Pflicht gilt für ortsfeste Kälteanlagen, Klimaanlagen, Wärmepumpen, Brandschutzeinrichtungen, Organic-Rankine-Kreisläufe und elektrische Schaltanlagen sowie für Kälteanlagen in Kühllastkraftfahrzeugen und Kühlanhängern; für die übrigen mobilen Einrichtungen gilt sie ab dem 13. März 2027. Die Kontrolle führt eine zertifizierte natürliche Person durch; bei mobilen Klimaanlagen und Wärmepumpen genügt eine Ausbildungsbescheinigung. Hermetisch geschlossene, als solche gekennzeichnete Einrichtungen mit weniger als 10 Tonnen CO₂-Äquivalent beziehungsweise weniger als 2 kg sind ausgenommen, in Wohngebäuden installierte mit weniger als 3 kg. Elektrische Schaltanlagen sind ausgenommen, wenn sie eine geprüfte Leckagerate unter 0,1 Prozent im Jahr aufweisen, eine Druck- oder Gasdichteüberwachung mit automatischer Warnung haben oder weniger als 6 kg enthalten. Bei Brandschutzeinrichtungen gilt die Pflicht als erfüllt, wenn ein Inspektionssystem nach ISO 14520 oder EN 15004 besteht und in der geforderten Häufigkeit geprüft wird.
