From 1 January 2030 the company ensures that packaging placed on the market is designed so that its weight and volume are reduced to the minimum necessary to ensure its functionality, taking account of shape and material (Article 10(1)). Independently of that date, packaging that does not meet the performance criteria of Annex IV, and packaging with characteristics that merely increase the perceived volume — double walls, false bottoms, unnecessary layers — may not be placed on the market; Article 10(2) exempts, among others, designs protected by design rights or as geographical indications. The assessment must be evidenced in the technical documentation under Article 10(4): specifications and standards, the design requirements per performance criterion and the test results or studies relied upon.

Ab dem 1. Januar 2030 stellt das Unternehmen sicher, dass in Verkehr gebrachte Verpackungen so gestaltet sind, dass Gewicht und Volumen unter Berücksichtigung von Form und Material auf das zur Gewährleistung der Funktionsfähigkeit erforderliche Mindestmaß reduziert sind (Artikel 10 Absatz 1). Unabhängig davon dürfen Verpackungen, die die Leistungskriterien des Anhangs IV nicht erfüllen, und Verpackungen mit Eigenschaften, die lediglich das wahrgenommene Volumen vergrößern — Doppelwände, falsche Böden, unnötige Schichten —, nicht in Verkehr gebracht werden; ausgenommen sind nach Artikel 10 Absatz 2 unter anderem geschmacksmusterrechtlich oder als geografische Angabe geschützte Gestaltungen. Die Bewertung ist nach Artikel 10 Absatz 4 in der technischen Dokumentation zu belegen: Spezifikationen und Normen, die Gestaltungsanforderungen je Leistungskriterium und die zugrunde gelegten Testergebnisse oder Studien.
