The company reuses the waste heat arising through measures and techniques for saving energy by using waste heat, in so far as this is possible and reasonable. The measures should not be confined to the individual installation but should also cover opportunities on the site and with external third parties. The recovered waste heat should be reused several times in cascade, according to its exergy content or in decreasing temperature steps. The exemption in Section 16(3) for installations requiring a permit applies accordingly. The obligation is recorded separately from the avoidance obligation: it requires a different act and, unlike the avoidance obligation, does not carry an administrative fine.

Das Unternehmen verwendet die anfallende Abwärme durch Maßnahmen und Techniken zur Energieeinsparung durch Abwärmenutzung wieder, soweit dies möglich und zumutbar ist. Die Maßnahmen sollen nicht auf die jeweilige Anlage beschränkt bleiben, sondern auch Nutzungsmöglichkeiten auf dem Betriebsgelände und bei externen Dritten einbeziehen. Die rückgewonnene Abwärme soll kaskadenförmig entsprechend ihrem Exergiegehalt oder in abfallenden Temperaturschritten mehrfach wiederverwendet werden. Die Ausnahme des § 16 Absatz 3 für genehmigungsbedürftige Anlagen gilt entsprechend. Die Pflicht ist von der Vermeidungspflicht getrennt erfasst: Sie verlangt eine andere Handlung und ist — anders als die Vermeidungspflicht — nicht bußgeldbewehrt.
