Irrespective of any specific request, the company transmits the information on the waste heat arising to the Federal Office for Energy Efficiency by 31 March each year and updates it without delay when it changes. Transmission should use the electronic template provided. The Federal Office makes the information available on the publicly accessible waste heat platform while protecting trade and business secrets. Information whose disclosure would endanger public and national security is excluded from publication and is placed in a non-public area (Section 17(3)). The first transmission was due by 1 January 2024 (Section 20(4)). Companies with 2.5 gigawatt hours or less are exempt.

Unabhängig von einer konkreten Anfrage übermittelt das Unternehmen die Angaben zur anfallenden Abwärme bis zum 31. März eines jeden Jahres an die Bundesstelle für Energieeffizienz und aktualisiert sie bei Änderungen unverzüglich. Die Übermittlung soll über die bereitgestellte elektronische Vorlage erfolgen. Die Bundesstelle stellt die Angaben unter Wahrung von Betriebs- und Geschäftsgeheimnissen auf der öffentlich zugänglichen Plattform für Abwärme bereit. Ausgenommen von der Veröffentlichung sind Informationen, deren Bekanntgabe die öffentliche und nationale Sicherheit gefährden würde; sie werden in einen nichtöffentlichen Bereich aufgenommen (§ 17 Absatz 3). Erstmals war bis zum 1. Januar 2024 zu übermitteln (§ 20 Absatz 4). Unternehmen mit 2,5 Gigawattstunden oder weniger sind ausgenommen.
